Evotech Performance Handlebar Risers for BMW R 1300GS (2024 Onwards)
Overview
Evotech Performance offers two distinct versions for the BMW R 1300 GS and GS Trophy (from 2024 onward):
-
A 30 mm lift only variant (Part No. PRN016720) that raises the bars without bringing them closer to the rider.
-
A combined 40 mm lift with a 30 mm backwards offset (Part No. PRN016723), commonly referred to as the offset riser.
The offset version is more comprehensive—it lifts the handlebars by 40 mm and shifts them rearward by 30 mm, improving ergonomics and control at the same time.
Design & Construction
-
Material: CNC‑machined from high‑quality aluminium for strength and light weight
-
Finish: Silver anodized or powder‑coated (depending on the market), offering corrosion protection and a clean factory‑look aesthetic
-
Fitment: Bike‑specific tooling ensures a perfect fit on the R 1300 GS or Trophy, from 2024 models and beyond
Installation is bolt‑on and designed to be straightforward, although the manufacturer recommends using threadlocker and following torque specs (or having a professional install it) for safety
Benefits of the Offset Riser
1. Improved Ergonomics & Comfort
By raising the bars 40 mm and bringing them 30 mm closer, riders achieve a more upright posture—reducing strain on wrists, shoulders, and upper back. Touring riders especially report reduced fatigue over long distances
2. Better Leverage & Control
The backward offset not only brings the bars closer but enhances control—especially low‑speed maneuvering on loose terrain or crowded urban conditions.
3. Enhanced Visibility
A higher handlebar position provides better forward visibility, helpful for both road touring and off-road trials.
4. Lightweight Yet Sturdy
The aluminium build maintains structural integrity while adding minimal unsprung weight—Evotech parts are known for their robust engineering.
Considerations & Potential Drawbacks
While many riders report benefit, it’s important to be aware of potential trade‑offs:
-
Altered handling feel at high speed: Raising the center of handlebars subtly shifts steering geometry, which can reduce stability at high speeds or on tight technical terrain. Several riders note possible front‑end feedback changes and even mild wobble if installation is not precise or fasteners loosen over time.
-
Hardware quality & fitting: A few aftermarket installation anecdotes mention stripped bolts or fitment gaps when risers aren’t a perfect match. Evotech’s OEM‑quality production tends to mitigate this, but use of proper torque spec bolts and threadlocker is advised.
-
No formal ABE/parts certificate in Germany; some riders had to retain original bolts or check local legality for aftermarket parts
