The component also regulates this voltage. This keeps the power within a safe operating range. Voltage regulation is crucial to prevent overcharging, which could damage the battery and other sensitive electronics.
Since the rectifier generates heat, it must be mounted in a spot with good airflow for cooling. On the Honda CB1000 Hornet SP, the rectifier is often exposed. It is typically found under the seat area or near the front wheel. This necessary exposure leaves the unit prone to damage. It is a critical and often costly electronic component.
A direct impact from a stone or other road debris can crack the housing. It can damage the internal circuit board. Impact can also compromise the heat-dissipating fins.
